Northeastern University
Julia Hopkins is an Assistant Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Northeastern University studying coastal engineering in a climate-changed world. She uses field observations and numerical models to improve predictions of urban coastal response to an uncertain climate future. She is a co-founder of The Emerald Tutu, a Boston-based startup which puts into practice her research on coastal resilience by designing vegetated floating mat networks for shoreline protection. She earned her PhD in Ocean Engineering in the MIT/WHOI Joint Program, earned a Bachelors in Math and Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT, and worked in the Netherlands at TU Delft as a post-doctoral researcher prior to joining Northeastern.
