Brooke M. Thomson is President and Chief Executive Officer of Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM), the statewide business association.
Her two-decade career in public policy has been marked by an enduring commitment to economic growth, social equity and the creation of economic prosperity for the citizens of Massachusetts.
Prior to her role as AIM President and CEO, Thomson served for four years as the association’s Executive Vice President of Government Affairs. She led AIM’s public-policy work on behalf of 3,400 member companies with policymakers both on Beacon Hill and Capitol Hill, assuming a leadership role on critical employer issues such as the cost of health care and energy; employment law; budget, taxes, finance; diversity and workforce development.
Prior to coming aboard as EVP for Government Affairs, Thomson served as a member of the AIM Board of Directors and Executive Committee. She chaired the Board’s Government Affairs Committee.
Thomson previously served as Vice President of Government Affairs at AT&T for nearly seven years. Her responsibilities for the telecommunications company included legislative and regulatory affairs in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Thomson came to AT&T after six years in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office, where she served as Chief of the Business, Technology and Economic Development Division, the principal liaison for the business community in that office.
Prior to that, Thomson worked in the Massachusetts Legislature for four years, as Legal Counsel to the Massachusetts Legislature’s Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy. Her time in the Legislature included work on a variety of energy issues including: expansion of the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS), expansion of energy efficiency programs and she helped draft the 2007 Green Communities Act.
Her political experience includes work on multiple political campaigns including managing the successful campaign of Martha Coakley for Attorney General in 2010.
Thomson earned her bachelor’s degree from Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley and her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law.
She lives in Sudbury, Massachusetts, with her two daughters.
